Coke bust gets man 7 to 14 years

A 25-year-old city man will be spending seven to 14 years in state prison for dealing crack cocaine after he accepted a plea deal with the district attorney on Monday.

Naafi Maliq Lowe was arrested in April and committed to the county jail in lieu of $350,000 bail. Three other men, including his brother, were arrested last September after a police investigation into a house in the 1000 block of Elizabeth Street, in the city, that took about a year.

During the investigation, Lowe sold about 165 grams of crack, $8,100 worth, to a confidential informant.

On Monday, district attorney Eric Linhardt summarized the many counts of conspiracy to distribute drugs against Lowe in court before Judge Marc Lovecchio.

“They were associated with an enterprise that conducted directly or indirectly and did conspire to commit racketeering activity and sell drugs to people in the Williamsport area,” Linhardt said of Lowe and Khalil Fulks, also arrested in the sting.

“That’s a lot of legalese, but it basically means you and Mr. Fulks were selling drugs together,” Lovecchio said. “I know I’m being a pain in the butt, but is that correct?”

Lowe slumped low in the defendant’s chair and shook his head as he answered Lovecchio’s questions in the affirmative.

He will be sentenced on Oct. 10.
