Two men were taken into custody and jailed on drug charges after a spectator, getting ready to watch the Little League World Series parade in the city on Aug. 14, spotted one of the men stuffing a handgun into his pants pocket, city police said.
Following a brief foot pursuit with officers that began in the 1000 block of West Fourth Street and ended in 500 block of Fifth Avenue about 3:30 p.m., Calvin Grey, 23, of 815 Franklin St., and Eugene Marcquis Brown, a 23-year-old homeless man whose last known address was of the 900 block of High Street, were nabbed, police said.
Police allege the two dropped 60-plus bags of heroin and 14 bags of cocaine during the chase. Officers recovered the drugs as well as a handgun when they searched the area of the pursuit.
Both men face charges of possession with intent to delivery controlled substances as well as possession of heroin, cocaine and drug paraphernalia. No weapon violation charges were filed.
Grey and Brown were arraigned before District Judge James H. Sortman. Brown was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $85,000 bail while Grey was jailed in lieu of $60,000 bail.
