Reckless teen driver hits firefighter directing traffic, throws him 50 feet, state police say
TOWANDA – Travis Lee Taylor, 19, of Wyalusing, was charged by state police here with aggravated assault by motor vehicle while driving under the influence of intoxicants after he allegedly hit Clinton A. Houghtaling, 25, of Wyalusing, a Herrickville Township volunteer firefighter, as he assisted in directing traffic early Saturday.
According to state police, Taylor was traveling south of Rummerfield Creek Road at a high rate of speed as he approached the scene in about 12:20 a.m.
Police said Taylor attempted to stop but was unsuccessful.
Houghtaling was thrown about 50 feet and came to rest on the east side berm.
He was transported to Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, by helicopter with major injuries and remains in stable condition there.
Taylor also was charged with underage drinking, careless driving and reckless driving. He was arraigned by District Judge Timothy Clark and jailed at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.
