Student charged after disturbance
MANSFIELD – Duran A. Russell, 22, of Oak Manor, Room 139, 64 Morris Drive, Mansfield University, was charged by university police following a domestic incident Saturday.
According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson’s office, Russell was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief after he got into an altercation with his girlfriend, Jessica Lyles, in her residence hall room in Oak Manor.
Police said Russell became upset after receiving a disturbing phone call and grabbed Lyles by the neck and choked her until she had trouble breathing. He also punched a hole in the wall of her room and pushed her, causing $150 damage to the wall.
He waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday and was released on $2,500 bail. His county court arraignment was set for Sept. 30.
