Woman charged after allegedly taking boyfriend’s car and driving drunk
MANSFIELD – Jane E. Shourds, 55, of 415 Bear Creek Road in Tioga, was charged by state police with aggravated assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants July 22 after she allegedly took her boyfriend’s vehicle without his permission and drove it home.
Shourds was pulled over at her residence and was in a vehicle owned by Eugene O. Mosher, who called police to tell them she had taken the vehicle, according to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson’s office.
Police said they found her in her driveway, getting out of the car with a beer in her hand.
She was taken to state police barracks where it was found she had violated her probation for a previous DUI and she was told she would be jailed for it.
Police said she walked out of the barracks, saying it was “ridiculous” that she was going to go back to jail, and she was charged with escape and harassment for refusing to be re-handcuffed in the barracks and for throwing an unidentified item at a trooper.
She was jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail and a preliminary hearing was set for Aug. 29.
