Charges withdrawn without testimony

With the alleged victim refusing to testify, city police withdrew charges Tuesday against a Lewis Township man who allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend after beating her with a toy gun and a vacuum cleaner handle.

Mark T. Kriner, 32, of 1 Cornwall Ave., Trout Run, had been arrested and incarcerated on charges of terroristic threats and simple assault for allegedly beating Sarah Desmond, who was forced to climb out a second-floor window at her apartment at the Newberry Estates, 2500 Federal Ave. during the attack which occurred about 3:45 a.m. Aug. 24, police said.

Kriner was accused of repeatedly punching Desmond in the face and head, and pulling her hair.

“During the assault, Kriner broke everything in the apartment, smashing a fish tank and overturning furniture,” an officer wrote in an affidavit.

“Broken glass littered the floor and stairwell,” the officer said.
