Man jailed after alleged heroin peddling in lot

An alleged local heroin dealer is behind bars after police say he sold narcotics to a confidential informant in the parking lot of the Montoursville Wal-Mart on Aug. 30.

James Paul Huffman Jr., 23, of 2950 Pine Ridge Road in Montoursville, has been charged with felony counts for delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a narcotic and criminal use of a cellphone. He also faces misdemeanor charges for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

On Aug. 30, members of the Lycoming County Drug Task Force met with a confidential informant. They gave the informant several hundred dollars of pre-recorded cash and listened as the informant allegedly called Huffman on his cellphone to arrange a drug deal.

The informant allegedly met Huffman in a silver Cadillac in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart. According to police, the informant returned a short time later with nine double-bagged packets of heroin in white glassine pouches.

The substance inside field-tested positive for opiates, according to court record.

Later, officers interviewed Huffman, who allegedly admitted he had sold heroin to the informant. He also told officers that the money was hidden inside of his vehicle, records state.

Huffman was arraigned on Aug. 30 before District Judge James H. Sortman. He was incarcerated in lieu of $50,000 bail.
