Man accused of stealing from former employer
A 35-year-old man faces burglary and theft-related charges for allegedly stealing from his former employer to pay his child support, city police said.
Eric Shields, of 1132 Isabella St., has been accused of stealing $625 from Joey’s Place on 505 Washington Blvd., during the early hours of Oct. 23.
A former cook at the bar and restaurant, Shields knew the location of a key that unlocked cabinets in which money was kept, police said in court papers.
Shields entered the business after closing hours through a rear door he had propped open with a menu earlier in the night, police said.
He was identified by employees via surveillance footage the following day.
Following his arraignment last week before District Judge Allen P. Page III on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, Shields was released on $25,000 bail. The last charge stems from paraphernalia police discovered when they went to his apartment with a search warrant.
