Police: Engaged couple stayed illegally

A couple engaged to be married landed in jail Tuesday after city police learned the two had been staying illegally inside a Brandon Place apartment, according to court records.

Not only had Carl Kendell Alford and Jody Michelle Lewandowski been staying at Walter Kinney’s apartment at 124 Brandon Place for the last five days, but the two also have been driving Kinney’s 2003 Chevrolet Impala, police said.

Although Kinney and Lewandowski are acquainted, Kinney never gave permission for her and Alford to stay in the apartment nor did he permit them to drive his car, police said.

Police responded to the property late Wednesday morning after someone at the apartment complex suspected Alford, 41, of 801 Hepburn St., and Lewandowski, 40, of 901 High St., were staying there illegally.

The couple were founding sitting in Kinney’s car when officers arrived. Clothing belonging to the couple was found throughout the apartment. Drug paraphernalia, which police said belong to Alford and Lewandowski, also was discovered in the apartment.

When Kinney, who was out of town at the time, was contacted, he told police Alford and Lewandowski had no business being in his car or apartment.

Following their arraignment before District Judge Allen P. Page III on charges of felony trespassing, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia, the two were committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail each.
