Police: Inmate head-butts sheriff, bites deputy, kicks probation officer
WELLSBORO – Jesse C. Day, 19, of Cresson, was charged by borough police with assault by prisoner, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, obstruction of the administration of the law and simple assault after he allegedly attacked law enforcement personnel at the courthouse Oct. 31.
According to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard’s office, Day attacked Sheriff Tom Young, as well as members of the sheriff’s department, probation department and the bailiff, following a hearing.
Police said Day, handcuffed and in a prison transport belt, refused to get in the elevator and go back to the prison, and instead lunged at Young and a deputy, striking them.
Police said he continued to fight in the elevator, biting a bailiff on his right arm, kicking a probation officer in the left arm, biting a deputy in the left arm, and head-butt Young three times to the left side of his face.
Police said he continued to fight even after additional personnel were called to help, to the point he had to be stunned with a stun gun by one of the deputies.
He finally was taken to the prison and jailed in lieu of $75,000 bail. His preliminary hearing was set for Nov. 19.
