Woman accused of attempted scam for refund on DVDs

MANSFIELD – Niki L. Wilcox, 32, of Athens, was charged by state police with theft by deception recently.

According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson’s office, Wilcox entered the Wal-Mart store in Richmond Township Sept. 26 with a pair of jeans and went to get a cart.

She then went back to the back and took DVDs from the shelf into the cart, with the help of her co-defendant Daniel Owen, and they went to the customer service desk to return them for store credit. She returned the jeans with a store receipt.

Owen allegedly spent some of the card that night and kept the rest. Wilcox was issued a summons to appear at a Nov. 27 preliminary hearing.
