Jersey Shore man accused of assault, harassment
Joseph P. Pontius, 27, of 479 Old Route 220, Jersey Shore, is accused of allegedly entering another man’s home at 25 W. 2nd Ave., South Williamsport, without his permission and assaulting him on Dec. 1, South Williamsport police said.
Pontius allegedly entered the home of victim Derrick Walker Sunday night and struck him in the face while he was washing dishes. A scuffle ensued during which Walker was struck several more times before escaping his residence to a neighbor’s home. As a result of the altercation, Walker sustained injuries to his face, an elbow and one of his knees, court documents alleged.
Before police arrived to the scene, Pontius had allegedly fled the residence with his wife in his gold GMC Jimmy, which led police to Pontius’ home where he was later taken into custody, police said.
On Sunday, Pontius was arraigned before District Judge James G. Carn on charges of criminal trespass, simple assault and harassment. He was committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.
Prior to the alleged offenses, Pontius had an active bench warrant through the Lycoming County Sheriff’s office, court documents said.
