Local man facing child pornography charges

Paul B. Breen Jr., 46, of 109 Wagner Road, Old Lycoming Township, was arraigned Friday on charges related to the dissemination and possession of child pornography, according to court documents at the office of District Judge James H. Sortman.

The charges are the result of an investigation by agent Brittney J. Baughman of the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Child Predator Unit.

Breen faces five counts of dissemination of child pornography for videos he allegedly downloaded from an Internet file-sharing program from Oct. 2 through Nov. 21. The videos obtained by agent Baughman appear to depict individuals under the age of 18 being sexually abused, court papers said.

The 20 counts of possession of child pornography Breen faces stem from the files a computer forensics unit found on Breen’s personal computer after his home was searched on Friday, according to court documents.

During the search, Breen was asked if he thought he had a problem related to child pornography, to which he replied, “Yeah, I think maybe I do,” court papers said.

Following arraignment before District Judge James H. Sortman, Breen was committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

He is scheduled to appear before District Judge James H. Sortman for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 22 at 1:15 p.m.
