Patient accused of stealing med center’s heart monitor

As state troopers were preparing to file felony burglary charges last month against Williamsport Regional Medical Center patient David Charles Bean, the 41-year-old Loyalsock Township man sneaked out of the hospital, taking with him a $2,700 heart monitor that the medical staff was using to treat him, city police said.

Bean was nabbed shortly after fleeing the hospital on Nov. 19 and was charged with allegedly burglarizing an elderly woman’s home in the 400 block of Pearson Avenue on Nov. 14, police said.

Following the break-in, Bean was caught outside the victim’s home, but he wrestled with state troopers, resulting in injuries that landed him in the hospital for five days, according to police.

Jailed last month in the burglary case in lieu of bail, Bean, of 1565 Northway Road, now has been charged by city police with felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing the hospital’s heart monitor.

Following his recent arraignment before District Judge Allen P. Page III, he was recommitted in lieu of an additional $125,000 bail.
