Woman charged with shoplifting at Loyalsock Township store

Chelsea M. Steinbacher, 23, of 1220 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, is accused of stealing merchandise from the Kmart in Loyalsock Township, state police said.

Police were dispatched to the store at 1915 E. Third St. on Dec. 9, after a store employee witnessed a woman allegedly taking merchandise into the fitting room and placing the items into a purse and diaper bag, according to state police.

Steinbacher was apprehended after going through the checkout lane without paying for the items, court papers said.

The items recovered allegedly included underwear, bras, a sweater and childrens shoes and clothing. The value of the items was $176, according to court documents.

Following a recent preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary W. Whiteman on a shoplifting charge, Steinbacher was released on $2,500 bail.
