Woman charged with sneaking into apartment complex and stealing items from unlocked units

A 25-year-old city woman who sneaked into the secured Williamsport Manor apartment complex at 450 Center St. one afternoon last month has been arrested on multiple counts of burglary for illegally entering 15 apartments in the building, city police said.

Kathleen Renee Enders faces 15 counts each of burglary and felony trespassing as well as one count each of theft and illegal possession of a controlled substance, Cpl. Jeff Paulhamus said.

Video taken from cameras inside the apartment house showed Enders entering the complex on Nov. 17 by sneaking through a door behind a resident who entered legally using the building’s pass code, Paulhamus said.

Once inside, Enders “attempted to open every single door in the building,” Paulhamus said he was told.

When she found an unlocked apartment, “she would simply walk in and steal food and beverages,” Paulhamus alleged in an affidavit.

In one case, she allegedly stole a resident’s bottle of morphine, the officer added.

Following her arraignment before District Judge James Carn, Enders was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

She has since waived her preliminary hearing.
