Man charged in connection with lottery ticket theft

MANSFIELD – Joseph S. Harzinski, 54, of 19 St. James St., Mansfield, was charged by borough police with retail theft and receiving stolen property for his role in the theft of several hundred scratch-off lottery tickets from Sara Jo’s convenience store, 33 W. Wellsboro St. between May 30 and Sept. 12.

According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson’s office, he and an employee at the store at the time, Connie R. McCullough, 43, of the same address, who already has been charged, took more than 600 lottery tickets, and scratched them off at a table early in the morning when no one else was in the store after McCullough opened for the day on several occasions between May and September.

Police said the two were captured on video surveillance camera.

The face value of all 672 tickets lost was $11,320.

Harzinski was issued a summons to appear at a Feb. 5 preliminary hearing.
