NY man accused of passing bad checks

WELLSBORO – Aubrey J. Plummer, 45, of Elmira, N.Y., was charged by borough police with theft by deception and making a false impression after he allegedly wrote checks to several borough businesses on a closed account.

According to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard’s office, Plummer wrote four bad checks all on Feb. 17, one for $321 at Etc. Antiques, 5 East Ave.; a second for $238.50 at Main Street Antiques; a third for $332 at Dunham’s Department Store, 45 Main St., and a fourth for $96.20 at the Painted Cupboard, 15 Main St.

The bad checks totaled nearly $1,000.

Plummer was jailed in lieu of $40,000 bail, $10,000 for each count, and his preliminary hearing set for April 3.
