Police: Ex-boyfriend no picnic for teddy bears
Days after his girlfriend ended their relationship, 25-year-old Ryan Allen Simcox illegally entered the woman’s Dewey Avenue apartment, destroyed stuffed teddy bears he had given her and later sent her text messages admitting what he had done, city Patrolman Eric Derr alleged in court papers.
Simcox, of 2120 W. Fourth St., on probation for driving under the influence and a drug conviction, now faces charges of burglary, felony trespassing and criminal mischief as a result of the incident early Saturday morning, Derr said.
Amber Harvey was in the process of moving out of her apartment at 1020 Dewey Ave. and returned to the apartment to collect more personal items on Saturday when she discovered the damaged teddy bears, Derr said.
The woman received text messages from Simcox admitted that “he was the one who burglarized the apartment and damaged her property” the officer said he was told.
After interviewing Harvey, Derr went to Simcox’s apartment and knocked on the door.
Upon opening the door and seeing the uniformed officer, Simcox told Derr he “knew why he was there,” according to the officer’s affidavit.
Simcox told Derr that Harvery’s apartment was unlocked and that he walked in, tore up the stuffed bears he had given her and left a note. Simcox automatically was placed in the Lycoming County Prison on a probation violation.
Following his arraignment Monday on the burglary-related charges before District Judge James Carn, Simcox was recommitted in lieu of $28,500 bail.
