Police: Mother left 2-year-old alone
A woman faces charges for allegedly leaving her ill, 2-year-old child unaccompanied for about 45 minutes on March 18, according to police.
When Sgt. Joseph Hope of the Old Lycoming Township police department pulled over Paulyana A. Martin for an expired inspection at Vesta Avenue and Lycoming Creek Road, she told him, “Please just let me drive home, my daughter is sick,” an affidavit said.
Martin, 27, of 88 Hazelbrook Lane, allegedly left her daughter to go to Weis Market to pick up medicine and other items. When police arrived later at her residence during the investigation, they found the child alone, sleeping in an upstairs bedroom. Children and Youth Services was notified of the incident, an affidavit said.
It later was discovered that Martin had purchased only sugar and iced tea from the grocery store before heading home, police said.
She was sent a summons to appear before District Judge James H. Sortman for an April 16 preliminary hearing to face charges of endangering the welfare of a child, and driving with an expired inspection and emissions certificate.
