Woman charged with illegal attempted purchase of gun
MANSFIELD – Julie A. Emery, 45, of 216 Clinton St., was charged by borough police with illegal purchase of firearms recently.
According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson’s office, Emery attempted to purchase a Ruger 9mm handgun from Cooper’s Sporting Goods, Mansfield, Sept. 10, 2011, by making a false written statement on federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms form, a third-degree felony.
During a background check by the owner of the store, Emery is prohibited from obtaining a firearm because she is considered “severely mentally disabled and in need of treatment.”
Emery was issued a summons to appear at an April 2 preliminary hearing.
