More charges filed against alleged thief

LAIRDSVILLE – Additional charges have been lodged against accused burglar Jason Wayne Barker, according to state police.

The 37-year-old Lycoming County Prison inmate now has been charged with breaking into the Assembly of God Church, 9565 Route 442, between Jan. 22 and Jan. 24, police said. It is alleged that he stole a 100-foot copper pipe that was valued at $2,000.

Already jailed since late February on more than 20-plus criminal counts stemming from five residential burglaries that occurred in Moreland or Franklin townships between late November and Feb. 21, Barker has been charged with an additional set of charges of burglary, felony trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from the church break-in.

He recently waived his preliminary hearing on all the charges before District Judge Jon E. Kemp. He remains behind bars in lieu of $500,000 bail.
