Police: Marijuana dealer struggles with cop

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student became combative Thursday afternoon with an undercover officer moments after he allegedly sold him $60 worth of marijuana, according to city police.

Zakary James Walls, 20, of Northumberland, grabbed hold of the officer and pulled him back into a house as the officer was attempting to leave Walls’ residence at 1264 W. Third St. about 3:30 p.m.

Walls allegedly punched the officer and put him in a headlock, police said. Officers outside the house witnessed the assault and stormed in, immediately coming to the officer’s aid, according to court records.

Police said Walls also allegedly sold $50 worth of marijuana to a confidential informant in the 1200 block of West Third Street on Wednesday.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched the student’s car. From the vehicle, police seized eight bags of marijuana and 17 dime-sized baggies of the controlled substance, court records state.

Walls was arraigned late Thursday night before District Judge Allen P. Page III on charges of assault on an officer, simple assault, unlawful restraint, resisting arrest and drug offenses. He was committed to the Lyoming County Prison in lieu of $85,000 bail.
