City man claims homeless woman stole from him

A city man befriended a homeless woman, taking her into his Sheridan Street home, but in the short time that she was there, she stole $1,800 from his bank account, according to city police Agent Ronald Bachman.

Shawnee Jaye Barker, 40, who last was living in a shelter for the homeless in Lock Haven, is alleged to have made 11 illegal withdrawals from Jeffrey Mosteller’s bank account during an eight-day period in late May, police said.

Mosteller, of 601 Sheridan St., allowed Barker to use his debit card to pay his bills, but instead, she took money out of his account without his permission, Bachman said.

Arraigned last week before District Judge Allen P. Page III on a felony count of access device fraud, Barker remains jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
