Theft of lost gift cards alleged
Felony and misdemeanor charges have been filed against 51-year-old Douglas L. Minier after he allegedly stole $2,100 worth of gift cards from a woman’s wallet that was left behind in a shopping cart at Giant on East Third Street on Jan. 31, state police said.
Minier, of 1518 Memorial Ave., admitted to investigators that he took the wallet home, removed the gift cards and then, on the same day went back to Giant at 1969 E. Third St. and turned in the wallet, police said.
Police allege Minier used one of the gift cards to place an order online with Macy’s, but the store canceled the ordered after the woman reported the cards missing.
Charged with felony counts of theft by lost property and receiving stolen property and one misdemeanor count of access device fraud, Minier was arraigned before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman and released on $2,500 bail.
