Police: Intoxicated woman steals truck
JERSEY SHORE – After allegedly stealing a Thompson’s Packing Co. delivery truck and crashing the vehicle into a building and a tree several blocks away late Wednesday night, 20-year-old Ashlee N. Blum, wearing only a shirt, allegedly tried to hide in bushes where an officer found her minutes later.
When Tiadaghton Valley Regional Patrolman Chad Aldenderfer started to take the “highly intoxicated” Blum into custody near Campbell and Burke streets about 11 p.m., she became combative and kicked the officer in the head, police alleged.
Blum, of 136 Baier Lane, Oval, was restrained and handcuffed, police said.
After being dispatched for a disturbance, officers were told a “half-naked woman” was seen running from the intersection, police said.
The next report was that the same woman may have just stolen a truck in the 400 block of Allegheny Street, police said.
Five blocks away, in the 500 block of North Lincoln Avenue, the truck was found abandon after crashing into a garage and a tree, police said. Minutes later, Blum was under arrest, and, due to her intoxication and the crash, was being taken by ambulance to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
However, the ambulance and a car reportedly making a U-turn at a crossover collided after the car pulled out onto Route 220, just south of the Woodward Township firehouse at 11:50 p.m., according to state police.
No one was injured in the crash. Damage to the ambulance was minor, while damage to the car was extensive.
A second ambulance was dispatched to the crash scene to transport Blum to the hospital, where it was determined that her blood-alcohol content level was .20, police said.
After she was discharged, Blum was arraigned before District Judge Allen P. Page III on charges of simple assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and driving without a license. She was cjailed in lieu of $25,000 bail.
