Second gun shop in area broken into

For the second night in a row, a gun shop in the region was burglarized.

An undetermined number of firearms was stolen overnight Friday from Sauers Trading Post and Gunshop, 1100 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, borough Police Chief Robert Hetner said.

“The front window was smashed and various guns were taken from at least one display case,” Hetner said.

Police responded to the business about 6:30 a.m. after the break-in was discovered, he said.

“We’re asking for the public’s help. If anyone heard or saw anything around the business overnight, please contact us at 570-327-8152 or through 911,” Hetner said,

If anyone has an exterior surveillance cameras near the business, police would like to view the video, he added.

He declined to comment on whether there were any surveillance cameras in the business.

This burglary comes one night after a break-in at GNR Sporting Goods, 763 S. Main St., just outside Mansfield, state police said.

Intruders forcibly entered the business sometime overnight Thursday and “stole 36 various handguns and rifles,” Trooper Robert Evanchick said.

Evanchick asked anyone with information about the case to call the Mansfield barracks at 570-662-2151.

It was unknown if the two burglaries were related.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the investigations.
