Police: Man overdoses in gas station bathroom

When city police arrived at the Sheetz service station at 105 Maynard St. just before 8 p.m. Saturday, 25-year-old Yuriy L. Gusev was on the floor in a public bathroom “unresponsive” from an apparent heroin overdose, according to court records.

An off-duty nurse was desperately trying to revive him by performing “rescue breathing,” an officer wrote in an affidavit.

In plain view on the floor were numerous empty drug paraphernalia bags and a needle, police said.

On top of a toilet paper roll was a bag that contained 13 bundles of heroin, police said.

Shortly after paramedics arrived on the scene, Gusev, of Centre Hall, was revived and taken by ambulance to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Upon being discharged hours later, Gusev was arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey on a charge of possessing 134 bags of heroin, and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
