Former LHU wrestler headed back to college after incident

LOCK HAVEN — Four-time PIAA wrestling champion Chance Marsteller, of York County, pleaded guilty Thursday in Clinton County Court to six criminal counts of simple assault and one count of open lewdness for an explosive and violent episode last  summer.

He said he hopes to turn his life around and is seeking redemption after his error in judgment here last year.

He was scheduled to return as a student at Lock Haven University today and hopes that he one day might rejoin the university wrestling team.

He appeared before Clinton County Judge Michael Salisbury, who scheduled sentencing for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 13.

The guilty plea came as jury selection was about to begin.

Marsteller was arrested for aggravated assault and related offenses after an off-campus incident at Lock Haven University.

According  to police  reports, on Aug. 25 Marsteller bit and spit at police officers after he was banging on apartment doors while wearing only a towel.

He was dismissed from the wrestling team as a result of the allegations.

The charges included six counts of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, disorderly conduct/fighting, six counts of recklessly endangering another, six counts of simple assault and one count of open lewdness, according to court documents.

According to court documents, Marsteller had a blood alcohol content that was more than three times the legal limit and had marijuana and cocaine in his system when he was arrested.

Since then, he reportedly began treatment.
