Driver rescued from woods

PHILIP A. HOLMES/Sun-Gazette

With special tools and equipment on this emergency vehicle, a team of volunteer firefighters headed a half a mile into the woods late Wednesday afternoon to rescue a woman who was stranded with her disabled car for several hours after the vehicle went over a 15-foot embankment on private property near the 1700 block of Hays Lane in Loyalsock Township, according to state police. The woman, believed to be in her late 60s, became disoriented while on Log Run Road and traveled into the woods, where her vehicle crashed at about 11:30 a.m. A 13-year-old on an all-terrain-vehicle found her after hearing her calls for help at about 5 p.m. “Quick action and thinking by that 13-year-old saved that woman’s life,” a firefighter said. She was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a local hospital to be evaluated. Her injuries did not appear to be serious, officials said.
