State police Cpl. Steve Schmit, of Troop F Montoursville, demonstrates the correct way to install a child car safety seat at the Hepburn Township Volunteer Fire Co. during training on Wednesday morning. Fifteen area state and local police officers, firefighters, EMS members and nurses are taking the National Child Passenger Safety Technician Course at the fire hall that will enable them to install and give consistant advice on how to install and use car safety seats and seatbelts properly. Schmit and another student will be certified as instructors at the completion of the course. On Friday, parents and caregivers can stop by the Hepburn Township Volunteer Fire Co. at 615 E. Route 973 Hwy. in Cogan Station to have their car safety seat or booster seats checked from 10 a.m. to noon as well as to have answered any questions about child passenger safety.
