Mother 2nd to be charged following child-abuse allegations

Just days after a father was jailed on charges of allegedly assaulting his two young sons, the children’s 19-year-old mother, Breanna Diane Long, was arrested for neglecting to care for the two boys, according to state police.

Long was taken into custody at her Lock Haven home early Monday night and brought before District Judge Jon E. Kemp to face charges of recklessly endangering and endangering the welfare of children.

The children ages were 18 months and 4 months at the time of the incident, Trooper Daniel Switzer said Tuesday afternoon.

Long and her boyfriend, the father of the children, Brett Allen Fields, 24, also of Lock Haven, “failed to properly care for the children by failing to feed and bathe, keeping them in wet and dirty diapers for extended periods of time,” the trooper wrote in a criminal complaint.

Switzer also accuses Long of failing to report allege abuse of the 18-month-old, who Fields allegedly punched several times in the head and face over a period of time, extending several months.

Some of the alleged abuse occurred while the couple and their children were staying last year in a home on Brick Church Road in Clinton Township between April 1 and mid-May, Switzer said.

The older boy suffered brain injuries as a result of the abuse, he said.

Fields and Long had three sons, but they have since lost all parental rights to their children after the county’s Children and Youth Department took custody of them.

Fields and Long, who worked together in a carnival, repeatedly left their children in the care of people they “did not know well,” Switzer said.

Following her arraignment, Long was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail. Fields, who faces assault and other charges, was jailed there last week in lieu of $500,000 bail.
