Police: Father-son duo steal air conditioners to buy heroin

To support their heroin addiction, a father and son allegedly stole air conditioners from Walmart in Montoursville on Friday and again on Tuesday, according to borough police.

Jeffrey Scott Cosgrove, 50, and his son, Donald Scott Cosgrove, 21, both of Coal Township., planned to sell or give away the air conditioners to support their heroin habit, police said.

The two allegedly fled the store on Friday with two air conditioners only to return to the business, at 1015 N. Loyalsock Ave., four days later to steal two more, police said.

However, before they could leave the parking lot, police nabbed them and took them into custody, police said.

The elder Cosgrove, who already has two shoplifting convictions, was charged with felony shoplifting and conspiracy while his son was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and conspiracy.

Following their arraignment before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman, the father was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail while his son was released on $7,500 bail.
