Police search for escaped female inmate

A female inmate from the Lycoming County Prison escaped from a van while being transported to the Pre-Release Center Friday afternoon.

The whereabouts of Gwen Marie Williams, 43, are unknown after she fled from the transport vehicle stopped at West Third and William streets in Williamsport at about 2:18 p.m., according to county law enforcement officials.

She was last seen running north on Government Place.

Williams was serving a 7 day to 6 month sentence on parole violations and was being transported along with other inmates to the Pre-Release Center. Her previous offenses are theft and drug possession charges.

She is described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 170 pounds.

She has blonde hair that was in a bun on top of her head. At the time of her escape, she was wearing black jeans, black sneakers with white trim, a black waist length coat, with a gray shirt underneath.

Originally from Sullivan County, she had been homeless.

Lycoming County Adult Probation, county sheriff deputies, district attorney detectives and prison staff were searching for Williams as of Friday evening.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Williams or has seen her, is urged to notify the Lycoming County 911 Center.
