Fire consumes barn in Montgomery
Sparks from a landscaper’s equipment ignited dry brush and the flames spread to consume this century-old wooden barn with a metal roof at the rear of 20 S. Main St. in Montgomery at 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to Rocky Sangueloce, owner of the barn. The blaze also spread to a portion of an apartment complex next door. Firefighters helped evacuate the occupants without incident. Firefighters said they were hampered in the intense heat and because one of the fire hydrants had low pressure. Sangueloce said he carried insurance and said the barn recently underwent a renovation. A state police fire marshal was investigating the scene. Attempts to reach borough police were not immediately successful Monday night.
