Couple charged with allegedly using heroin around children after overdose incident

When 33-year-old Jasmine Weed overdosed on heroin in her house on Wildwood Boulevard one afternoon early last month, her husband, Jeremiah Weed, and a friend, Michael McGrath, carried her outside and put her down in a gravel parking lot, city police said.

Four children were inside the house at 810 Wildwood Blvd. when the overdose occurred about 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 6, Patrolman Eric Derr said in court papers.

Paramedics responded to the scene and rushed Weed to the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center, where she recovered and was later discharged.

McGrath, 35, of 2307 Lycoming Creek Road, Cogan Station, was arrested Wednesday morning on city police charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin, recklessly endangering and endangering the welfare of children. He allegedly delivered the heroin to the home, Derr said.

While she was being treated at the hospital, Jasmine Weed told Derr that “McGrath had supplied the couple with bags of heroin, laying them on a coffee table and saying ‘Everyone gets two,’ “ Derr said in an affidavit.

Jasmine Weed said that she, her husband and McGrath “all used heroin in the presence of the children, rendering the three of them unfit to care for them,” according to Derr.

Officers went through the house after obtaining a search warrant from a district judge. There was “assorted heroin paraphernalia scattered everywhere” and there was “an uncapped syringe in a bedroom within reach of any child in the house,” Derr said.

Arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey, McGrath was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. Jasmine Weed and Jeremiah Weed, 32, have both been charged with endangering the welfare of children. Jeremiah Weed faces an additional charge of recklessly endangering. The Weeds have been sent summonses to appear before Frey, Derr said.
