Police charge 6 during holiday DUI enforcement

Six drivers were arrested by police looking for intoxicated motorists between Nov. 19 and Monday, according to Old Lycoming Township Police Chief Joseph Hope.

Police conducted 51 traffic stops, 10 of which were detained for sobriety tests, he said, adding that one of the intoxicated drivers was using drugs.

One of the drivers had four prior driving under the influence arrests and was operating a vehicle with a disabled ignition interlock giving the driver additional charges, Hope said.

During the enforcement, four were arrested for possession of drugs, two operators were found to have outstanding warrants, one from Lycoming County and another from York County, and officers issued many citations for traffic violations, he said.

On the plus side, police also noticed many people using alternative means of transportation and designated drivers.
