Man pleads guilty to possession of child porn

A Lycoming Township man pleaded guilty in Lycoming County Court Monday to 11 counts of possession of child pornography.

James R. Protasio, 66, of 3675 Linn St., faces a state prison term of 36 to 96 months.

Investigators with the Child Predator Division of the state attorney general’s office came to Protasio’s home in May 2010 with a search warrant after tracing evidence of child pornography to his residence.

State Deputy Attorney General David J. Drumheller told the court that investigators found hard drives and computers at an office next to the home revealing images of child pornography which involved minors engaged in sexually explicit behavior with other minors or adults.

Investigators found 11 videos and some 550 images.

Protasio, who practiced law in Lycoming County for many years and represented himself in court, acknowledged that account to be true.

In addition to his sentence, Protasio will undergo evaluation with the state sexual offenders assessment board.

The board is responsible for conducting assessments of certain convicted sex offenders in order to assist the court in determining whether they meet the legal criteria for classification as a Sexually Violent Predator.
