Firefighters responded to the scene of a house fire at the 1800 block of Southard Road in Gamble Township at 2 a.m. Monday. The cause of the fire still is under investigation, but, according to Chief Charles Whitford, of Eldred Township Fire Co., it was not suspicious in nature. Living in the home were three adults and three grandchildren who are staying in a home provided by the American Red Cross. According to Whitford, the family was alerted of the fire because of smoke alarms in the home. The hosue was destroyed by the fire and, according to Whitford, most of the furniture in the house was unsalvageable. Stations that were on the scene including Eldred were Montoursville Volunteer Fire Department, Loyalsock Township Fire Department, Trout Run Volunteer Fire Co., Hepburn Township Volunteer Fire Co. and Plunketts Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department.
