Man allegedly altered customer’s check
WELLSBORO – Jonas A. Choplosky, 19, of 306 Main St., Blossburg, was charged with forgery and theft by deception after he allegedly altered a check made out to another person so he could cash it.
State police charged Choplosky for cashing the $277 check, made out to Cutco, after he received it for an order of three knives from Barbara L. Richards, of Charleston Township, on Nov. 12, according to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard’s office.
Police said he altered the check to make it payable to himself and never delivered the order to Richards. He was issued a summons to appear at a Feb. 19 preliminary hearing.
Police: Woman reported fake hostage situation
WELLSBORO – Barbara A. Watkins, 47, of 133 Lynd St., Blossburg, was charged by state police with making false reports to law enforcement and disorderly conduct after she allegedly repeatedly called emergency services to report she was being held hostage by an allegedly suicidal man at 4357 Cherry Flats Road, Covington Township, on Jan. 14.
Watkins said Charles E. Varner was holding her hostage and was going to shoot anyone who tried to enter his garage, according to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson’s office. The incident never happened, but Watkins made 17 calls to emergency services that evening, police said.
She was issued a summons to appear on Feb. 20.
14 sentenced in Tioga County Court
WELLSBORO – Fourteen people were sentenced Monday in Tioga County Court.
According to court documents, sentenced to state prison were:
Joel M. Linsenbigler, 29, of Westfield, five years for manufacture, delivery and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, 160 days’ credit time served.
Dustin A. Post, 22, of the borough, 14 to 48 months, 24 months’ probation for theft and burglary, plus $232 restitution, credit for 16 days’ time served; 24 months’ probation for resisting arrest concurrent.
Sentenced to county prison were:
Arthur J. Glover, 51, of the borough, 36 months’ intermediate punishment for theft, 11 1/2 months, 161 days’ credit time served, probation, $200 fine and $1,400 restitution
Ryan V. Arena, 22, of the borough, 11 1/2 to 23 1/2 months, 148 days’ time credit for time served, $100 fine for theft; 12 months’ probation for resisting arrest concurrent, $100 fine.
Sadie D. Wilcox, 21, of Mansfield, 1 to 12 months, credit for time served, $150 fine for possession of a controlled substance.
Sentenced to Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition were:
Megan M. Smith, 22, of the borough, 12 months for driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Jenna L. Kriner, 27, of the borough, 12 months for making false reports.
Jessica M. Tavel, 30, of Blossburg, 12 months, $450 restitution for theft.
Peter R. Januskiewiecz, 52, of Burnham, Maine, 12 months for DUI.
Tyler M. Morgan, 21, of the borough, 12 months for receiving stolen property.
Zackery J. Schaub, 24, of Forksville, 12 months for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Zachary J. Disante, 18, of Palermo, N.J., 12 months for possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and underage drinking.
Cecil G. Cooper, 38, of Tioga, nine months for DUI.
Robert C. Keaton III, 22, of Rochester, N.Y., nine months for DUI.
6 charged with driving under influence
WELLSBORO – Six people recently were charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants recently. According to documents filed in District Court here and in Mansfield, each was issued a summons to appear.
Thomas A. Hanlon, 19, of Gallitzin, by state police after they were dispatched Dec. 11 for a report of two people walking along Route 15 in Richmond Township, with one of them wearing only boxer shorts. Hanlon allegedly told police he had crashed his car into the Tioga River at the Hammond Lake boat launch. Police said they found the car fully submerged, and Hanlon said he didn’t know how he had crashed his car into the river but that he had not been drinking. He later admitted he had lied and had been drinking beer earlier in the evening. He also was charged with underage drinking.
Steven L. Kilmer Jr., 42, of 254 Blair Road, Trout Run, state police, following a Dec. 16 traffic stop on Route 15, Bloss Township.
Jeffrey B. Gilbert, 23, of 113 Mainesburg Road, Mainesburg, state police after he drove his car into a ditch along Route 287, Delmar Township.
Jody L. Lapoint, 41, of 1345 Short Hill Road, Westfield, state police after he crashed his car Dec. 10 on Route 6, Shippen Township.
Chad L. Woelfel, 21, of 985 Ritz Road, Mansfield, borough police following a Jan. 19 traffic stop on East Avenue.
Matthew R. Covine, 29, of 112 Coyote Lane, Blossburg, state police after he crashed his car Jan. 1 on Cherry Flats Road, Covington Township.
