Bittner’s robbery driver convicted

A Wellsboro man was recently convicted of charges stemming from an Aug. 12, 2012 robbery of Bittner’s General Store on Route 14 in Trout Run.

Damian Schexnayder, 29, was found guilty after a nonjury trial by Judge Nancy Butts of conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit theft.

Schexnayder was driving his brother Brody, 21, and Jason Greene, 25, to Williamsport to buy heroin when they stopped at Bittner’s. Greene entered the store and asked the clerk to ring up some chewing gum, then jumped over the counter and attempted to grab several bills from the register. The clerk held Greene’s hand, and he dropped the money and fled.

The two brothers were apprehended later that evening at the Mansfield Wal-Mart, after a Bittner’s customer had given police the license plate of their silver Chevy Impala.

Schexnayder is scheduled for sentencing on April 11.
