Apply to become a Master Gardener
Through Aug. 30, Penn State Cooperative Extension in Lycoming County is accepting applications for the 2013 Penn State Master Gardener program. It consists of a volunteer training course designed to provide experienced home gardeners with information and skills necessary to share their experience and knowledge with others.
Weekly classes will be held from Oct. 3 through Feb. 27.
In exchange for a minimum of 36 hours of instruction, candidates must agree to volunteer 50 hours to the Penn State Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners program. Some volunteer activities carried out by Master Gardeners in Lycoming county include the annual Garden Fest, presenting on various gardening topics for local schools, groups and organizations and programming sponsored by the Master Gardeners, such as composting, rain barrels and pollinator gardens, perennial plant sale, and answering questions for the garden hotline.
A fee of $175 covers the cost of training materials and expenses.
