In the Military

WEST POINT, N.Y. -Cadet Andrew William Eck, son of Julie and Bernie Eck, of State College, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy on May 25.

He is the grandson of Walter and Joy Eck and William and Tish Bonner, all of the Jersey Shore area.

Eck graduated from State College Area High School in 2009. While at West Point, he concentrated his studies in mechanical engineering.

He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the Army Aviation branch and will report to Fort Rucker, Ala., for his first assignment.

The mission of the U.S. Military Academy is to educate, train and inspire the corps of cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of duty, honor and country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the United States Army.

Julian Stark, former resident of Williamsport, graduated on May 29 with the Class of 2013 from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co.

He received a bachelor of science degree in military and strategic studies and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force.

Stark will report at the end of July to Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas, where he will study to become a military intelligence officer.

He is a 2009 graduate of Buckeye Union High School in Buckeye, Ariz.

While living in Williamsport, Stark attended Sheridan Elementary School and joined Cub Scouts, which started him on his path to reach the rank of Eagle Scout.

He is the son of Tech. Sgt. Daniel Stark, USAF Ret., and Trina Stark, of Buckeye, Ariz., and the grandson of Lou and Elaine Johnson, of Williamsport, and Don and Beckie Stark, of Montoursville.
