WELLSBORO – Ticket sales are brisk for this year’s “Wine and Whiskers” fundraiser for Animal Care Sanctuaries, of Wellsboro, said Wendy Reber, ACS director for Tioga County.
The second annual event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Tioga County location across from Weis Markets on Route 6.
Wine from Shade Mountain Vineyard and Winery, of Middle-burg, and Keuka Lake Vineyards in Hammondsport, N.Y., will be offered for tasting, as will food from local restaurants.
A pet parade across the catwalk will include a pet sponsorship auction competition, and live music will be performed.
“There are 38 silent auction items and secret prizes under some of the seats,” Reber said.
Performers will include local musician Brandon Lusk and Drowsy Maggie, a Celtic music trio.
“A unique thing to bid on is an autographed Chase Utley Philadelphia Phillies baseball cap,” she said.
In addition, former Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth, of California, has donated a baseball from the 1988 World Series, which he autographed. The ball will be auctioned off at the event.
Other features include a “Photo Shack” booth set up for photos with pets, a silent auction of unique gifts to benefit the shelter animals of Tioga and Bradford counties and door prizes.
“It’s important for our shelter animals to gain visibility and exposure as we complete our second year as residents at the sanctuary here,” said Joan Smith-Reese, ACS executive director.
All activities will take place under tents, so the event will go on rain or shine
Tickets for Wine and Whiskers may be purchased at the shelter.
“We are delighted so many businesses and families express such an interest in helping to care for and love our furry four legged residents,” Reber said.
