Jailed Tioga County man charged with theft

WELLSBORO – Erich J. West, 33, currently a prisoner at the Tioga County Prison, was charged with burglary and theft for two incidents that happened last summer.

According to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard’s office, West was charged by state police with thefts from the Stony Fork Country Store, 2748 Stony Fork Road, Delmar Township, Aug. 10, and also from Reese Welding, 592 Cherry Flats Road, Charleston Township, Aug. 11.

Police said he took a cash register valued at $100 that contained about $11 in change from the store, as well as five boxes of welding wire valued at $320 from Reese’s.

Police said he broke into and stayed the night in both businesses.

On Aug. 12 West was involved in a vehicle pursuit and four boxes of the stolen wire were found in the vehicle, one had been left outside of the welding shop.

Police said he had dumped the cash register in a wooded area where it was recovered.

He was issued a summons to appear at a Jan. 16 preliminary hearing.
