Naval enlistee from Jersey Shore deployed for Olympics security

A 2012 Jersey Shore Area High School graduate is helping to provide security for the Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Drew Michael Baum, 19, of Linden, has been assigned to the USS Taylor, a frigate that is one of two Navy warships sent to the Black Sea on standby security for the games.

The ship’s personnel are prepared to assist in the rescue and protection of U.S. Olympians and officials.

Baum departed for a seven-month assignment on Jan. 8. He has been stationed at a naval station in Mayport, Fla., since March 2013.

Baum enlisted in December 2012. He is the son of Mark and Kimberly Baum.
