Open house planned for area lakes
TIOGA – A public open house will be held at 7 p.m. April 15 at the Ives Run Visitor Information Center. Attendees can meet new Park Manager Robert J. Schnell and hear about upcoming special events, including opening and closing schedules for the recreation areas at Tioga-Hammond and Cowanesque Lakes.
The Lambs Creek boat launch, courtesy dock, comfort stations and picnic area at Tioga Lake are scheduled to open on April 18, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Pending weather conditions and debris removal from recent high water event, the area may open earlier.
The Ives Run Campground and Day Use area at Hammond Lake and the South Shore Recreation area at Cowanesque Lake are scheduled to open April 20.
Courtesy docks will be in place at all boat launches on that date.
From April 20 to May 14, the Ives Run campground office will be staffed with volunteers with posted hours. Campground mooring slips will be available for rent beginning April 20, as well.
Tompkins Campground at Cowanesque Lake is scheduled to open May 15.
Hawthorn Bathhouse and Pine Camp is the only Ives Run campground restrooms open until May 15.
Camping reservations and shelter reservations may be made online at www.recreation.gov or by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service at 877-444-6777.
