Work continues on Interstate 180
Weather permitting; the contractor working on Interstate 180 in Northumberland and Lycoming counties will have daylight work-zone traffic patterns in place this week from Monday through Saturday.
Lane restrictions, using traffic cones, will be in effect in both directions from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, from just east of Exit 5-Turbotville to just west of Exit 10-Muncy, Main Street.
The traffic patterns will change to accommodate the various daytime activities.
The contractor will be:
Hauling rock into the median area to stockpile;
Installing erosion and sedimentation control measures;
- Placing poles for electrical services and illuminating lights; and
- Constructing and paving temporary crossovers and emergency pull-offs.
Meanwhile, a subcontractor will begin repairs to the substructure of the bridge carrying the interstate over Hughes Road.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. The free site is available 24 hours a day and provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 680 traffic cameras.
It also is available by calling 5-1-1, and regional Twitter alerts are available on the 511PA website.
Public input sought
The public may share their feedback on transportation priorities and investments through an online survey at www.PAOnTrack.com, as part of the state Department of Transportation’s efforts to update the state’s long-range transportation plan and develop the state’s first comprehensive freight movement plan.
The plans will provide a strategic vision for investing in transportation assets to meet current and future demands.
The plan’s goals, objectives and recommendations will help guide the state’s future 12-year programs and regional long-range transportation plans.
“PennDOT and its planning partners are constantly reviewing our transportation priorities, and we’re once again asking the public to help us plan for the future,” PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said. “Input from our customers is vital in ensuring we have as much information as possible to make informed, long-term decisions.”
The survey, available until May 30, asks the public to identify their top transportation priorities among all assets, from freight connections to bike and pedestrian facilities. Participants then will rate the appeal of how various investment scenarios, such as preservation and technology enhancements, affect their top priorities.
People taking the survey also can identify project needs that address traffic congestion, bridges, transit and more.
Columbia County bridge project
to begin Monday
A PennDOT contractor will begin a bridge replacement project on Route 1014 – Martzville Road – in Columbia County this week.
The 29-foot-long bridge was built in 1938 and is classified as structurally deficient. It carries Martzville Road over Glen Brook near the Berwick Country Club in Briar Creek Township.
On Monday, R.C. Young Inc. will close the bridge and implement a detour directing traffic to use Lake Road, Route 93, Route 11 and Market Street.
The bridge will be removed and replaced with a new concrete box culvert on the same alignment.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by late July.
