All services begin at 7 p.m.

March 20: Mid-week Lenten Service at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

March 29: Good Friday Service at the Oriole United Methodist Church.

During Lent season, churches will participate in a worship series titled By My Hand-For My Sake. The questions will be asked, “what is your role in the suffering and death of Christ?” Through homilies and monologues the characters Adam/Eve, Nicodemus, Judas, Barabbas, Pilate, Peter and the Centurion will address this question. Participating pastors are Bill Anderson, T.R. Hardic, Roger Yoder, Sharon Nestlerode, Cathy Dawes and Tom Jones.

March 28 – Maundy Thursday, McElhattan UMC, 7 p.m.

Offerings for the services will be split between various mission organizations.

Episcopal churches in the Williamsport area will hold a Lenten soup supper and DVD series followed by a service of Compline on Wednesdays during Lent beginning at 6 p.m. The topic is What Wondrous Love: Holy Week in Word and Art.

March 20 – Church of the Good Shepherd, 827 Good Shepherd Road, Montoursville.

A Eucharist Service will be held at 5 p.m. every Sunday during Lent at Trinity Episcopal Church, 844 W. Fourth St., in the chapel.

Trinity Episcopal Church, 844 W. Fourth St., will hold Palm Sunday services at 8 and 10 a.m. March 24. The 10 a.m. service will begin with an outdoor processional on West Fourth Street (weather permitting). The Rt. Rev. David Colin Jones will be presider and preacher at both services. A Tenebrae service will be held at 7 p.m. March 27 at Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry St., a Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m. March 28 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1656 Scott St. A Garden of Gethsemane all night watch and pray will be held at the church with people praying during one-hour time periods throughout the night. Communion, a light breakfast and Stations of the Cross will be held at 8 a.m. on Good Friday, March 29, at All Saints Episcopal Church. A Good Friday service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 7 p.m. and will include a choral presentation of Stabat Mater by Rheinberger. An Easter vigil will be held at 7 p.m. March 30 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 827 Good Shepherd Road, Montoursville. A celebration of the Resurrection and Holy Communion will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 8 and 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday in the main church with an Easter egg hunt for children after both services.

Orthodox Lenten Schedule

For Orthodox Christians throughout the world, Lent begins on Monday leading to the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ (“Holy Pascha”) on May 5. Locally, a Vesper service will be sung at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 17, to begin Lent and daily services will be held at 7 p.m. the following week (March 18-22) at Holy Cross Orthodox Church, Holy Cross Lane in Loyalsock Township. The Orthodox date for the celebration of the resurrection of Christ is based on the formula adopted by the First Ecumenical Council in 325 AD (that also determined “Easter” always be observed on a Sunday. In addition to its normal weekend schedule, Holy Cross Church will conduct lenten worship at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 7 p.m. on Fridays for the duration of Lent. Woolrich Community United Methodist Church and combined churches: Maundy Thursday service 7 p.m. March 28 at McElhattan United Methodist. Easter services: Woolrich Community United Methodist Church will hold Easter Sunrise Communion service at 7 a.m. with breakfast to follow at 8 a.m. in the fellowship hall; 9 a.m. Easter Communion and 10:30 a.m. Easter Communion service.

Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St., will hold free inspirational movies at 6:30 p.m. each Friday leading to Easter. Dates and films include: March 8, “October Baby;” March 15, “Amazing Grace;” March 22, “The Jesus Film;” and March 29, “The Passion of the Christ.” Call 398-1909 for more information.

Pine Run United Methodist Church, 1719 Pine Run Road, about 2 miles north of Route 220, will hold an Easter cantata “It Is Finished,” at 7 p.m. March 22, with refreshments to follow. The choir will again offer the cantata during worship service on Palm Sunday, March 24. Crossroads Community Church, 1454 S. Route 44, Jersey Shore, will hold three Easter services: a sunrise service at 7 a.m. and worship services at 9 and 11 a.m.

St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 2233 Linn St., Palm Sunday service 9:30 a.m. with Bishop Dreisen; Good Friday 7 p.m. Tenebrae service with Pastor Ron Savits, Easter Sunday service 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Ron Savits.

The GAP Fellowship, 312 Maynard St., 10:17 a.m. Easter service with Pastor Gary Runtas.

Picture Rocks United Methodist Church, which encompasses Picture Rocks, Tivoli, Point Bethel and Kedron United Methodist churches has announced its Holy Week schedule: Strawbridge Kedron United Methodist Church, Route 220, will host a Mundy Thursday Seder meal in combination with a covered dish supper scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish. Holy Communion will be celebrated. On Good Friday, from 5-7 p.m., Picture Rocks United Methodist Church will have Holy Communion elements available for those who would like to celebrate the sacrifice of Good Friday. Tivoli United Methodist Church will hold an Easter Sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. with a light breakfast to follow. The churches also will hold Easter Services at each church. Point Bethel will worship at 8:45 a.m., Tivoli at 9 a.m., Kedron at 10 a.m. and Picture Rocks at 11 a.m.
