Cadets spending summer at city Salvation Army

The Williamsport Salvation Army recently announced the arrival of Cadets Luke and Sara Barney and their three children to the Williamsport community for summer assignment.

The Barneys attend The Salvation Army’s College of Officer Training, anticipating graduation next June. Upon graduation Cadets Luke and Sara Barney will be commissioned as officers in The Salvation Army.

Under the leadership of Capt. Chas and Debbie Engel, the Barneys have immersed themselves in the many programs that The Salvation Army in Williamsport has to offer. Current summer programs include: girls and boys youth programs, youth music and timbrels, women’s ministry programs, men’s club and weekly Bible study classes for adults. The cadets also are actively involved in hospital and home visitation and assist in Sunday worship service.

According to Luke, he and his wife are enjoying their eight week internship. He also said he is impressed with hearing about the growth that The Salvation Army of Williamsport has seen over the past year with the arrival of the Engles.

It’s nice to get “the real life experience being with the people instead of sitting in the classroom,” Luke said, “This is what we’ll be doing.”
